SPOT - Space Programming Toolkit for Hospitals is a copy righted software application designed & developed by maps to automate the otherwise tedious calculations of hospital space and functional programming. The application uses over 650 built-in programming formulas and a large database of hospital codes to automatically analyze and calculate the project’s functional & space requirements.

How does SPOT work ?

The application prompts the planner to enter the project’s coordinates such as location, type of facility, hospital statistical data, etc using the application’s screen interfaces. SPOT then applies programmed formulas built into the application to the information entered by the planner and generates reports of calculated functional & space requirements. If necessary, the planner can adjust calculated values depending on the project’s specifics. When all of the project’s functional calculations are completed, SPOT compiles all calculation results into a sequenced functional & space program.

• Projected annual workload volumes including surgical operations, patient days, outpatient visits, emergency visits, deliveries, pathology tests, dialysis sessions, and all other diagnostic procedures.
• Annual room & equipment throughput values such as surgical procedures/ theatre, procedures/ endoscopy room, patient days/ bed, etc
• Required number of patient bedrooms, operating theatres, outpatients clinics, and all other functional units for each hospital department.
• Required capacities of support equipment such as CSSD sterilizers, laundry washers, etc
• Outline space requirements for each department estimated with reference to the number of hospital beds, number of functional units, or number of adjusted patient days.
